Dysorgasmia: Breaking Down Painful Orgasms

Do you experience pain in your pelvic region and/or abdomen after sex?

Don't be alarmed, you are a part of the 20% of women who report signs and symptoms of Dysorgasmia according to a study done by The Sexual Advice Association.

Dysorgasmia is defined as pain in the abdomen or pelvic area during or immediately after you reach your orgasm. This discomfort can last up to a few hours or could give you a Man Down Code 10 situation for the remainder of your day. When experiencing Dysorgasmia, mild to heavy cramping that mimics menstrual cramps or even Braxton-Hicks contractions can occur which can cause major upset and discomfort.

Let's first break down the uterus which is also known as our womb. Our uterus is an organ located in the lower region of our abdomen and also holds our babies during their gestational periods. Also, as our female reproductive organ, this is also where we begin and end our menstrual cycles.

What's interesting about our womb is that it is also a muscle. This muscle contracts to dilate and open our womb to prepare for childbirth...and does the same to purge our bodies of unfertilized egg shedding monthly when we fail to conceive. The latter process is also known as our menstrual cycle.

With this being said, during our orgasms, it sticks to the same script and contracts as we reach our orgasmic peak. However, due to numerous factors that are unique to the bodies of the 20% who experience Dysorgasmia, pain and discomfort may result immediately after such a euphoric moment.

What are those factors? Well I'm glad you asked cause oh I'm about to diiiiive innnnnn.

Studies assert that there are a plethora of medical related issues that are attributed to Dysorgasmia. The main culprits can include diagnosis of disorders relating to the bladder (which is very close in proximity to the uterus) and also disorders of the uterus. Certain medications (particularly antidepressants) can also cause bouts of Dysorgasmia. Ovarian cysts (growths on the ovaries) and/or fibroids (non-cancerous tumors) are also considered culprits as they can be irritated during the friction of sex or the contraction of the uterus during orgasm. With ovarian cysts, the fluid from their sacs may leak out as the uterus contracts or receives pressure against the weight/thrusts of her partner, which can lead to accelerated discomfort as you come off of your orgasmic high.

Endometriosis is also a contributing factor to women who experience Dysorgasmia as the overgrowth of scar tissue and adhesions along the uterine lining can become inflamed during intercourse and subsequent orgasm. The same can be said about Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) as the entire pelvis is already inflamed and extra pressure is a recipe for discomfort. Lastly, Dysorgasmia can also affect the nervous system as overstimulation may include an enhanced response to adrenaline which can result in uterine discomfort.

But there is hope and help on the other side of the daaaaack. Treatment and management is possible bew.

On the smallest tier possible, you may treat Dysorgasmia the same way that you treat your menstrual cramps: warm compress, a muscle relaxer such as ibuprofin, rest, and abstaining from vigorous sex are the main building blocks of alleviating pain. Let me circle back on rough sex and stress as I always do that this is not the way to back to home in Kansas heauxs. It is NOT normal to walk "funny" after sex or be otherwise incapacitated due to a nigga using your womb as his daaaaack's punching bag. I will die on this hill!!! So please abstain from rough sex so that your womb can abstain from being put through a rough recovery unnecessarily.

In closing, Dysorgasmia is a discomfort due to orgasms. If you are experiencing serious pain, burning, or prolonged irritation, please close this app and dial 911 because it may be a symptom of a more serious condition that needs to be checked out by a medical professional. All jokes aside. Particularly if you desire children as you only get one womb which includes your lifetime supply of only two Fallopian tubes-bust them heauxs and that's the entire game. Womb health is serious health and I want us all to take it very seriously.
